VOCALIST ALICIA WALLER PERFORMS AT THE KENNEDY CENTER MILLENNIUM STAGE ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22 AT 6:00 PM
DC Area native will perform with her ensemble, Alicia Waller & The Excursion, presenting a vibrant blend of jazz, soul, and vernacular music.
Washington, DC – New York City-based vocalist and Oakton, VA native, Alicia Waller, returns home to the Washington, DC metropolitan area to present an unforgettable blend of jazz, soul, and vernacular sounds at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on Saturday, February 22 at 6:00 PM. This concert marks Waller’s first performance in the area in over a decade.
Alongside her ensemble, Alicia Waller & The Excursion, Waller will perform selections from her acclaimed EP, Some Hidden Treasure (2020), along with fresh material from her highly anticipated debut album, Louder Then. Known for the luminous warmth of her voice and captivating approach to soul, Waller creates a rich, expressive sound that has been praised as a synthesis of splendor and depth.
This event is presented free of charge, courtesy of Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center. It will take place in person and will also be live-streamed. Online advance reservations for in-person guests will be made available on a first come, first served basis beginning February 5, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Tickets will also be available at the Hall of States Box Office on the day of the performance, beginning at 4:30 PM.
Waller will additionally perform at the Mobtown Ballroom in Baltimore, MD on Thursday, February 20 at 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM.
About
Alicia Waller is recognized for her work as bandleader for the contemporary jazz and soul fusion ensemble Alicia Waller & The Excursion. A multi-talented singer-songwriter with a background as an operatic soprano, Waller has since focused on soul music, jazz, and the African diaspora as the foundation for her EP Some Hidden Treasure, released in February 2020 on innova Recordings, the label of the American Composers Forum. Her voice and sound have been hailed as “splendid and luminous,” as well as “flexible and virtuosic.”
Waller’s work and process were featured in the documentary series What Moves You? by SkyHour. The short explores her vision to inspire cultural diplomacy through music, and desire to examine sounds capturing the depth and beauty of the human experience.
She received her undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Maryland and graduate degree from New York University, Gallatin School of Individualized Study. She is additionally a recipient of numerous awards, including acknowledgements from Chamber Music America, the NYC Women’s Fund, NYSCA, American Composers Forum, and New Music USA.
